Stormy Weekend Weather In The Forecast For Rhode Island

After an unseasonably warm day, there's a chance for severe weather in Rhode Island.

RHODE ISLAND — After another day of unseasonably warm weather, stormy skies are expected in Rhode Island on Saturday.

The day will start off warm, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures reaching the mid-70s. The weather is expected to turn later in the day, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms starting around 4 to 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service placed the whole state under a "marginal" risk for severe weather, with the chance of wind gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour and brief periods of heavy rain.

Skies are expected to clear by Sunday morning, with sunshine and slightly cooler temperatures in the forecast during the day.

Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Breezy, with a south wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 53. South wind 6 to 14 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday
A slight chance of showers before 7 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 65. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

A slight chance of showers before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. West wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Monday
A slight chance of showers after 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. West wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
