A traffic stop was made just short of the Wakefield town line, police said. According to police, while Martin was attempting to give them her license, she told them the stop was “bull****” and she was “just trying to get home.”

When asked where she was coming from, Martin told police “a friend’s house” and told them she didn’t “have anything to drink.” According to police, Martin’s eyes appeared bloodshot, and a smell of alcohol was present from the car.

Police said when Martin was first asked to submit to a field sobriety test, she told them, “**** that, I’m straight.” When asked again, police said she complied, but failed the tests. At that point, she was placed under arrest.

According to police, an inventory of Martin’s car revealed a small bag of marijuana in her purse, as well as several prescription drugs. However, the drugs were in Martin’s name.

Police said Martin was transported to headquarters, where she made was allowed to make a phone call. According to police, Martin refused to take a chemical test, or to complete an alcohol influence report.

Martin was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and refusing to submit to a chemical test. She was also cited for speeding, for changing lanes without using a signal, and for operating a motor vehicle without proper headlights.

She was transported to Fourth Division District Court and arraigned the morning of Jan. 9. At the court hearing, her refusal charge was upgraded to a second offense, based on a past offense.

Martin also appeared in court on Jan. 11, based on a November 2011 South Kingstown arrest for simple assault, which was amended from domestic simple assault. She pleaded no contest, and was ordered to make a contribution to the Domestic Violence Fund, and to pay court costs. (For details of that arrest, visit .)

For the Narragansett police charged, she is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Jan. 25.
