The Best of Pier School Art on Exhibit at Library
The portraits, paintings, sculptures and drawings from the students are currently on display at the library.
In an exquisite gallery showing Monday night, the best of the best of the Narragansett Pier School art scene displayed their work at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, and helped to fundraise for a new sculpture at the school.
Pier School art teacher Kristen Bryce said she picked the pieces from amongst her first and second quarter classes.
“I push the kids really hard, but I’m always surprised by how creative they are,” she said. “I teach it to them, but I don’t do any of the work for them.”

According to Bryce, most of the work came from the first quarter classes, and grades five through eight were represented.
“It’s a little bit of everything,” she said. This is the first full year in the classroom for Bryce, who started at the Pier School last January.

Nina Doyle, a seventh grader and a member of the SOAR program in art, was also on hand to help Bryce sell ceramic tiles and other pieces. The money raised is going toward a sculpture for the Pier School.
“We’re thinking of a large pole with fish off of it,” Doyle said. “Like a school of fish.”
