Three Charged With Felony Breaking and Entering

According to police, three local residents broke into the Olde Lighthouse Diner on Knowlesway on the morning of Oct. 19.

Three local residents were charged with felony breaking and entering and vandalism after an investigation by Narragansett Police allegedly revealed the trio had stolen food from the Old Lighthouse Diner after closing hours.

The three were identified as:

  • Kyrsten St. Martin, 20, of 975 Point Judith Road.
  • Jared M. Sweet, 18, of 484 High St., Apt. 2B, South Kingstown.
  • Kristopher J. Lambert, 23, of 20 Messer St., Apt. 10, Warwick.

According to police, they were called to the diner at about 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 19. An employee reported that overnight, a countertop above a safe had been ripped off. However, the thief or thieves had not been able to access the safe.

Police said that while processing the scene, a 39-year-old Narragansett man came forward as a witness. He said that while purchasing a few items at Cumberland Farms at about 10:20 p.m., he saw several suspicious people near the diner. As a result, he wrote down the license plate for a green Jeep parked at the diner.

Police traced the Jeep’s registration to Lambert. Police also responded to the residence of the worker who closed up the previous night, and noted that Lambert’s Jeep was parked in the driveway.

Based on interviews with Lambert, St. Martin and Sweet, all three were arrested and charged with breaking and entering — a felony — and vandalism. Police noted that St. Martin is also an employee of the diner.

According to police, all three claimed that they did enter the diner after hours, and took a gallon of milk, some apple juice, some maple syrup and a slice of pie. All three denied damaging the countertop or trying to break into the safe.

According to a search of online court records, all three have past arrest histories.

  • St. Martin is scheduled to appear in a Providence County court on Nov. 15 because of a past felony breaking and entering charge. Cranston police made the arrest in Sept. 2010. She also pleaded no contest in May 2009 to a Warwick police shoplifting charge.
  • Sweet pleaded no contest in August 2011 to South Kingstown police charges of felony conspiracy and felony breaking and entering. He was ordered to serve four years probation. A violation hearing is scheduled for Nov. 1 because of the new Narragansett police charges.
  • In July, Lambert was charged by Warwick police with felony domestic assault, domestic disorderly conduct, obstructing a police officer and conspiracy. The charges were dismissed on Sept. 26 after a no-contact order with the victim was rescinded on Sept. 14.
