Toegemanns, Gilligan, Moore in College Tennis Playoffs

Four local tennis players will be on the courts this weekend, as the Northeast Conference holds its men’s and women’s tennis playoffs, and Wheaton College plays in its final regular season game.

Narragansett resident Amy Toegemann has racked up an 11-7 singles record for Division II Stonehill, playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Toegemann is a senior, and a graduate of the Lincoln School in Providence.

Wakefield resident and sophomore Katie Gilligan is also on Stonehill. She has posted a 14-7 record, playing at No. 2 to No. 6 singles. Gilligan is a graduate of the Prout School.

Stonehill is the top seed for the Northeast-10 Conference tennis tournament. The Skyhawks finished 12-1 in NE-10 play, and 14-4 overall. Stonehill plays St. Michael’s College at 2 p.m. Friday. For a preview, click here.

Chris Toegemann, the twin brother of Amy, was scheduled to play this afternoon for Merrimack (16-7, 11-0 Northeast-10 Conference), the No. 1 seed for the men’s playoffs. Toegemann is a junior and plays singles and doubles.

According to team results posted this afternoon, Merrimack beat Stonehill 5-0.

Jessica Moore, a Prout School graduate and Middletown resident, plays for Division III Wheaton College. According to stats provided by Wheaton, Moore is 0-2 at No. 5 singles this year, but 2-3 overall in doubles play.

Wheaton finishes its regular season by hosting Colby-Sawyer at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Lyons (not Lions) are 9-5 overall, and 4-3 in conference play.
