Two Vermont Teens Charged with Eastward Break-Ins
An officer catches the pair while they were going after another car on Foster Lane.

Narragansett Police arrested a pair of teens from Brattleboro, Vermont early Monday morning in connection with several car break-ins this past weekend.
According to police, at about 12:10 a.m. on Monday they received reports of thieves in the area of Ashton Lane. Patrolman John A. Silveira, who was patrolling Mariner Square, responded.
The caller told police that while at a party, they overheard two people outside talking about “houses with their lights on.” The caller told police they then checked their car, and it had been rummaged through.

In his report, Silveira wrote that on Summit Road, he spoke to three people he knew from Narragansett High School. They told them that they were searching for the thieves, who had stolen the GPS of an 18-year-old friend.
Silveira said he then turned on to Ashton Lane and spoke with the original complainant. He then drove through the neighborhood, making a left-hand turn from Ashton on to Foster Lane.

According to Silveira’s report, while going down Foster Lane he saw a boy run across the street to meet another boy, who was crouching by a white minivan. Silveira said that he heard the sound of falling change, and grabbed one of the boys while telling the other to stop.
When asked what they were doing, Silveira said that one told him, “Just going for a walk.” According to Silveira, both had bulging front shirt pockets and short pockets, full of goods.
He ordered both to empty their pockets. An inventory of the two boys revealed:
- Three GPS units, each valued at $175
- Several pairs of prescription eyeglasses of unknown value
- A Canon 10-megapixel Powershot camera, $30
- A pair of Anthem Rewards binoculars, $20
- A pair of Nikon Action Lookout III binoculars, $100
- A pink bowl, $20
- A glass jar, $10
- A pair of Blue Ribbon Marchon sunglasses, $10
- A pair of HD Auber sunglasses, $50
- A manual from a 2010 Honda CRV manual, $5
- A pair of white headphones, $10
- A pair of black headphone, $10
- About $11 in currency
- About $2.50 in change
All of the items were confiscated from the boys and taken as evidence by Narragansett Police. Some of the items have been returned, however, not all have been claimed yet.
The two boys told police that they were in the area on vacation. Police drove them back to their rental, which was at 35 Summit Road. At that home, police met with the parents of one of the boys and informed them of the situation.
Both boys were charged with tampering with motor vehicles, receiving stolen property, and larceny. They were released to the custody of one set of parents at 2:45 a.m.
