URI Student Charged With 3 Counts of Marijuana Distribution

Alexander G. Brown, 21, is charged with distribution after police record two marijuana buys via an informant.

Alexander G. Brown, 21, of 192 Fleetwood Drive, Saunderstown, was arrested at about noon on Aug. 14 and charged with three counts of felony drug distribution. Police said Brown is a student at the University of Rhode Island, and he is in the university’s online directory.

According to police, on Aug. 13 an informant made a controlled buy from Brown while under the surveillance of South Kingstown police. The transaction, which occurred in front of a home on Wright Avenue, was taped, police said.

The informant made another buy from Brown at about 11:35 a.m. on Aug. 14, after which, both he and Brown were taken into custody. A search of Brown’s car revealed marijuana in a Clorox wipes container in the back seat, and three small baggies in two different plastic containers.

Brown was arraigned at police headquarters and released at about 6:45 p.m. after family members posted bail. He is scheduled for felony screening on Sept. 25.
