All Newport Mansions Open for Season on Saturday

When was the last time you visited the remarkable Newport Mansions?

NEWPORT, RI—The weather is warmer and summer is around the corner, which means its time for the doors to Rosecliff, Hunter House, Isaac Bell House and Chepstow to swing open.

On Saturday, all the remaining Newport Mansions will reopen for the season, along with Green Animals in Portsmouth.

Until Oct. 10, all mansions are open daily. Here's a link to the complete operating schedule.

One big change this year is a little loosening of the camera policy at the Elms, Breakers and Marble House.

The Preservation Society of Newport County, the caretaker of the mansions, announced over the winter that cell phone cameras will be allowed but only when it won't disrupt the quiet enjoyment of the properties by other visitors.

The exception to the no interior photography rule is for noncommercial and social media use. No selfie sticks, SLR or film cameras, tripods, flashes or anything else is allowed.

Last year, the Preservation Society earned official recognition by the Arbnet Arboretum Accreditation program, which designated the 88 acres and 1,800 acres that frame the breathtaking mansions as an arboretum.
