Drifter Nabbed With 'Numerous' Stolen Items: Newport Police

The man, who has no permanent address, was also caught with cocaine, police said.

NEWPORT, RI — A man with no permanent address was caught with a trove of stolen property, police said.

The rash of thefts came to light Nov. 30 after Traffic Investigator Detective Michael Sherman took a larceny report from a local business owner who reported two items valued at over $1,600 had been stolen from in front of the business, the Newport Police Department said in a media release.

Sherman located Steven Kuntz, 60, the stolen property and "numerous other items believed to be stolen," the release said.

Kuntz was also in possession of cocaine, according to the release.

The ensuing investigation revealed that Kuntz had broken into two residences and attempted
to break into a third, the release said.

"Mr. Kuntz also broke into numerous vehicles in the Newport area," according to the release. "Over 60 stolen items were recovered, including an iPad, 2 E-ZPasses and various other items."

Kuntz was charged with breaking and entering a residence, breaking and entering a business,
attempted breaking and entering another residence, trespassing, larceny from a motor vehicle and possession of Cocaine, according to the release.
