RIDEM Cops Cops Catch 3 Unlicensed MA Fishermen With 69 Fish: Police

Of the 69, fish, 67 were undersized, according to the department of environmental management.

NEWPORT, RI — Rhode Island Environmental Police Officers caught three unlicensed Massachusetts fishermen with 69 fish, the department said.

The men were intercepted in Newport, according to a post on the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Facebook page.

The men were in possession of 48 tautog and 21 sea bass and "failed to produce valid saltwater fishing licenses," the department said.

Od the 48 tautog, 47 were undersized and 20 of the 21 sea bass were undersized, according to the department.

"The total catch was seized, and luckily, officers were able to return many of the fish to the water," the post said. "The boat owner was arrested, will be charged in District Court, and was issued citations for boating safety violations."
