Arrests Made In Connection With Newport Double Shooting
Two people were arraigned on charges of murder, felony assault and conspiracy among others. One person remains at large.

NEWPORT, RI — Two arrests were made in connection with a double shooting in Newport early Monday morning, police said.
The shooting happened outside The Friendly Sons of Newport on Farewell Street around 1:15 a.m. Two people were hit, 25-year-old Yordi Arevalo and 30-year-old Noel Paniaqua. Arevalo died in the hospital, while Paniaqua was later released with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, the shooting happened after an argument, though no further details were released.

Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for three people. The first, for Shamik Steele, was for murder and felony assault. Another warrant was issued for Xavier Perry and Duane Logan, charging each with conspiracy to commit murder.
Perry was arrested around 9:15 a.m. on Monday. Newport police detectives, with help from several other local departments and Rhode Island State Police, determined that Steele was staying at a home in West Warwick, where he was arrested.

Steele and Perry were arraigned Tuesday on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, felony assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Both were ordered held without bail.
