What is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo originated during the first years of the American Civil as a way to celebrate freedom and democracy. In the 1860s, Cinco de Mayo evolved into the  celebration of Mexican culture that we observe today. 

In 2005, Congress issued a resolution to observe Cinco de Mayo with ceremonies.

Where can you celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Newport?

We asked what people are doing on Facebook, and here are a few ideas:

• Becca Glynn Rhino bar is having a cinco de mayo party with food specials and a wingman special ( tequila served in a sidecar with does equis.) DJ Dayo starts spinning at 9 and Latin night in Tusk!
• Tania Pan Perro Salado is the obvious place to be!
