Cliff Walk Daffodils in Bloom
Walk remains closed from Ruggles Avenue to Ledge Road until further notice

The following statement was provided by the cliff walk commission
Thanks to the support of the Daffodil Project, over 25,000 new daffodils began blooming this week along the world famous Cliff Walk between Memorial Blvd., the entrance to the walk, and Ruggles Avenue, adjacent to the Breakers mansion.
This is the 9th year of the Newport Daffodil Projects campaign to beautify Newport by creating large naturalized meadows of yellow daffodils. The Daffodil Project is a partnership of community volunteers, the City of Newport, the Newport Preservation Society, Salve Regina University, the Newport Restoration Foundation and Rhode Island Department of Transportation. The plantings are
made possible through the generous support of Ron Fleming.
Due to the damages to the Walk from Hurricane Sandy, the Walk remains closed from Ruggles Avenue to Ledge Road until further notice. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation and the Coastal Resources Management Commission are in the process of developing plans to repair this
portion of the walk.
“The most popular part of the Walk, from the entrance at Memorial Blvd. past the Breakers to Ruggles Avenue is open,” stressed Cliff Walk Commission Chairman Bob Powers. “This portion of the walk, over one mile, is where you’ll find the many daffodils.”
Additional plans for the walk include replacing the temporary portajohns with a permanent restroom facility at the Walk and Narragansett Avenue (“40 Steps”). This work should begin this fall.
Parking for the work is available at Easton’s Beach and at Narragansett Avenue. Walkers are warned to stay on the paved section of the walk, leash their dogs, and not to pick the daffodils.
