The beach is now closed to swimming because of the concern for elevated bacteria levels, though the state Department of Health has not made a formal beach closure announcement.

The city is using the health department's "predictive modeling protocol" to make the decision to close the beach for swimming. Those guidelines indicate that the beach should be closed after an inch of rain for at least 12 hours or two tidal cycles.
