Historic William Street Home Sells for $465,000

NEWPORT, RI—One home sale was reported last week by the statewide Multiple Listing Service—a charming 18th century colonial in the Historic Hill neighborhood with floors to die for.

The Edward Hammett house, a 1,333-square-foot colonial at 27 William Street, has four fireplace and a separate summer cottage. A patio garden with brick paths frame fruit trees in the yard. Inside, the centuries-old old-growth wood used for the floorboards and beams are as priceless as any fine antique.

The house is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was originally listed at $489,500 before selling for $465,000, which is about $20,000 above the city's assessed value.
