Man Allegedly Assaults Woman on Way Home From Bar

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  • Nelson Youcute, 23 of  97 Warner Street was arrested Tuesday around 2:01 a.m. on a second degree sexual assault.  He allegedly followed a  28-year-old woman on her way home from a bar on Broadway, approached her and said he was “out of phone.”  He then used physical force to hold her and reached under her skirt, said police. A witness approached the victim and Youcute reportedly ran off. Police found him and said he was intoxicated.

  • Keith Turner, 23, was arrested around 5:24 p.m. Monday on a bench warrant charge.

  • Cheryl Pottinger, 160 Broad Street, Providence was charged Monday with breaking and entering after a resident complained someone was inside her house.
