Mother Allegedly Hits Officer With Car Door While Driving Kids to School
The following arrest was reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Mary Rose, of 22 Pond Ave., was arrested at 6:40 a.m. Thursday morning on charges of simple assault. Police said she was pulled over because she did not stop at a Pond Avenue stop sign and a child was standing up in in the back seat.
When police approached the car, Rose allegedly said “so what if I didn’t stop for that [expletive] stop sign, I’m driving my [expletive] kids to school!” She had three kids in the car, said police.
She opened the car door, which struck the officer in the torso and pelvis, said police. Police said she continued screaming at the officer, and the children began to cry and were visibly upset. The children were trying to put their seat belts on, but told the officer they didn't know how, said police.
