Newport Might Restrict Mowers and Blowers an Extra Hour on Weekends
How early is too early? Currently, landscaping equipment can't be fired up before 7 a.m. on weekends in Newport.

NEWPORT, RI—Some people like starting weekend yard work early. Is 7 a.m. too early to fire up the trusty John Deere?
That's a question members of the Newport City Council will try to answer on Wednesday when they consider a resolution that would direct the City Solicitor to draft an ordinance amendment restricting the use of landscape equipment on Saturdays and Sundays to 8 a.m.
The resolution, sponsored by Councilors Kate Leonard, John Florez and Mayor Jeanne-Marie Napolitano, is based on what they say is widespread sentiment among Newporters that 7 a.m. is just too early.

"Many people work late during the week and would like to sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays," the resolution states.
If approved, the resolution might have an impact on landscaping companies that work on the weekends.
