Slim Possible's 5k Raises $2K For Cancer Saturday

The Slim 5K, organized by Slim Possible Newport, raised $2,000 for American Cancer Society Relay for Life Saturday morning.

The sun and mild temperatures brought out a a total of 111 runners and walkers Saturday for Slim Possible's 5k to fight cancer.

When Melissa Bodenbender's father was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and was given a month to live, Slim Possible Newport and Bodenbender partnered up to organize the event.

"After all expenses we are happy to report that we will be writing a check to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for $2109," said Slim Possible's Patrick Snow.

Lee Fontaine of Newport came in first overall, with a finish time of 19:23.  Jay Grover-Silvestri of Newport was the overall male winner, with a finish time of 20:34.
