Police ID Victims Of Deadly Newport Shooting

Both were Newport residents. One died in the hospital, while the other was later released with non-life-threatening injuries.

NEWPORT, RI — Police identified the two victims of a deadly double shooting on Farewell Street early Monday morning. The shooting happened around 1:15 a.m. at The Friendly Sons of Newport, police said.

Both were Newport residents. Yordi Arevalo, 25, died at Rhode Island Hospital of multiple gunshot wounds, while Aroldo M. Noel Paniaqua, 30, was later released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Newport police called the shooting "an isolated incident," with no immediate threat to the wider community.

A spokesperson for the department said that no other details could be released at this time, since the investigation is still underway.
