Portsmouth Man Stabbed in Newport

Police are investigating what is described as an isolated incident.

NEWPORT, RI—A 24-year-old Portsmouth man was stabbed several times on Monday morning and rushed the hospital where is now listed in stable condition.

Newport Police Sgt. Jonathan Cortes said that the stabbing happened in the area of Farewell Street and Broadway at about 1:25 a.m.

The victim was transported to Newport Hospital and then Rhode Island Hospital following the incident.

No arrests have been made at this time.

"This is an ongoing investigation currently being investigated by members of the Criminal Investigations Division," Cortes said. "This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public."
