Sold! 5 Houses in Newport Last Week

NEWPORT, RI—Five houses sold in Newport last week, according to data from the statewide Multiple Listing Service covering the period from June 14 to 21.

Among the home sales was the historic house at 378 Spring St., which sold for $945,000.

The historic property was built in 1861 or perhaps earlier, according to the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission.

Farmer John A.C. Stacy, who lived on Bowery Street, "owned probably as investments this property and the ones adjacent ant numbers 374 and 382," according to National Park Service records.

"This is a fine, typical, but rare-for-Rhode-Island Gothic cottage, in the mode of Andrew Jackson Downing; its form was most popular in the mid-years of the 19th century, and this may well have been built elsewhere earlier and moved here," the report states.

The house has been fully renovated in recent years. (see slide show below).
