Car Break-Ins, Thefts On Rise In North Kingstown
North Kingstown police offer tips to prevent car break-ins and thefts.
NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — There has been a recent increase in car break-ins and thefts in North Kingstown, according to police.
"We’ve recently seen an increase in vehicle break-ins and thefts in our community," North Kingstown police said in a Facebook post. "These incidents are crimes of opportunity, often targeting unlocked vehicles or those with valuables left in plain sight. While we increase patrols in the areas, please help us by doing your part to prevent further incidents."
North Kingstown police offered the following tips to prevent car break-ins and thefts:

- Always lock your car, even when parked in your driveway
- Never leave valuables in plan sight. Instead, store them in your trunk or take them with you
- Do not leave spare keys or fobs in the car
- Park in a well-lit area or garage when possible
- Make a 9 p.m. routine. Every night around then, check that your car is locked, remove all valuables, close and lock the garage door, and turn on exterior lights.
