Fishing Cove Elementary Named 'Blue Ribbon' School
The North Kingstown elementary school was given national recognition, the state department of education said.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—Fishing Cove Elementary School has won a national honor, the state education department said. It's been named as National Blue Ribbon School for 2017, one of just three Rhode Island schools to earn the accolade, according to the U.S. Dept. of Education. The other Blue Ribbon schools are Classical High in Providence and Community Elementary School in Cumberland.
Classical and Community Elementary are high performing schools, the state education department said. Fishing Cove is being honored for closing achievement gaps.
"According to the U.S. Department of Education," the state said, "the National Blue Ribbon Schools program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards, or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. Classical High School and Community Elementary School were designated as Exemplary High Performing Schools, and Fishing Cove was designated as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School."
