Lafayette Band Armed Forces Salute to again honor veterans

Annual free concert, on May 18 in North Kingstown, will also support the VA and veterans in need

To honor past and present members of the U.S. military, the Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will perform its annual Armed Forces Salute concert at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Music Director Charles Johnson will lead the band in a program of patriotic favorites, marches, medleys, big band and swing music, and tunes with military themes.

All veterans and their family members in attendance will be recognized with their service branches. Admission is free and all ages are welcomed. Voluntary donations at the door will be appreciated and shared between the Providence VA Medical Center Voluntary Services Office, to aid veterans in need, and the band's free community concert program. Over the past 12 years, the Armed Forces Salute has generated nearly $6,000 in contributions to the VA.

This year's concert is supported by funding from the North Kingstown Arts Council.

The Lafayette Band is a nonprofit community concert band with a mission to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Founded more than 140 years ago, it is one of the oldest bands in New England. Though based in North Kingstown, the band's members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
