Lafayette Band Armed Forces Salute to honor veterans on May 28

Free concert scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

On Memorial Day weekend, the Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will honor military veterans by performing its annual Armed Forces Salute concert. The program is set for Sunday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m., St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Music Director Charles Johnson will conduct a program of patriotic favorites, big band and swing music, and tunes from Broadway and Hollywood.

The Armed Forces Salute is a community tribute to past and present members of all branches of the U.S. military. All veterans and family members in attendance will be recognized. Admission is free and all ages are welcomed. Voluntary donations at the door will be appreciated and shared between the Providence VA Medical Center Voluntary Services Office, to aid veterans in need, and the band's free community concert program.

The Lafayette Band is a nonprofit community concert band with a mission to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Founded 140 years ago, it is one of the oldest bands in Rhode Island. Though based in North Kingstown, the band’s members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
