Lafayette Band Festival of Lights Concert Set for December 2

Free performance at First Baptist Church, Wickford, dedicated to late band member Ted Johnson

The Lafayette Band of North Kingstown will perform its annual Festival of Lights Holiday Concert at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, December 2, in the First Baptist Church, 44 Main St., Wickford. Newly appointed Music Director Chuck Johnson will conduct a festive program of traditional and popular holiday music enjoyed by people of all ages.

The performance will feature vocalist Richard Johnson, and the program is dedicated to his late father, Ted Johnson, who played clarinet in the Lafayette Band for 68 consecutive years. Mr. Johnson passed away in October at age 89.

Admission is free. The concert is funded by a grant from the North Kingstown Arts Council. Patrons are advised to arrive early, as seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Lafayette Band is a nonprofit community concert band with a mission to strengthen North Kingstown and surrounding communities through music. Founded 140 years ago, it is one of the oldest bands in Rhode Island. Though based in North Kingstown, the band’s members reside in many communities in Southeast New England.
