North Kingstown Girl Scout Helps Pets Get Exercise For Gold Award

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A girl scout from North Kingstown has earned the Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, after she created an annual event that educates pet owners about easy ways to get their animals more exercise at home.

Daphne Higginbottom received the award after completing her project "Healthier Animals."

"Girl Scouts has helped me grow as a person through the many adventures I have had the privilege to attend," Higginbottom said. "I have been involved in Girl Scouts since I was in kindergarten, and it has been a huge part of my life ever since."

Higginbottom organized an annual agility course that runs at the Doggie Dash during the local BoldrDash race.

"Growing up while being in this organization, I not only was able to learn and connect with the world around me, but I was also able to create lifelong friendships," Higginbottom said. "Throughout my 14 years as a Girl Scout, I have earned my Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards as well as gone on a trip to London, where I learned a lot about independence and money management."
