Ex-Providence Police Officer Pleads Not Guilty To DUI In Fatal Crash In North Kingstown

Police say a North Kingstown woman was riding a tricycle when she was hit from behind by a Jeep driven by Daniel Famiglietti​, 59.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A retired Providence police officer appeared Monday in Washington County Superior Court after North Kingstown police said he killed a woman riding a tricycle in a drunken crash on Thursday evening.

Daniel Famiglietti, 59, of Warwick, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence, resulting in death. The charge was in connection to a crash on June 2o that killed Linda Sherman, 53, of North Kingstown.

Police said the crash happened around 6:57 p.m. on Boston Neck Road at the intersection of Earle Drive. According to police, Sherman was riding a tricycle in the breakdown lane when she was hit from behind by a Jeep driven by Famiglietti. She was rushed to Kent County Hospital in Warwick, where she was pronounced dead.

Famiglietti retired from the Providence Police Department in early 2022.

He was released on personal recognizance, following Monday's court appearance. Famiglietti is scheduled to return to court Dec. 2.
