Electric Car Recharging Is Now Free At Pawtucket Stop & Shop

PAWTUCKET, RI — The Stop & Shop grocery chain is now providing free electric vehicle charging for shoppers at five of its locations across the Northeast, and Pawtucket is on the list.

The supermarket company announced it is partnering with Volta Charging to launch 50 additional charging stations across five states by the end of 2021 as part of its commitment to sustainable retailing.

The new Volta fueling stations deliver up to 30 miles of range per hour and allow customers with electric vehicles to park in one of two designated spots near the store entrance and charge while they shop.

Volta Charging’s vision is "to build EV charging networks that capitalize on and catalyze the shift from combustion-powered miles to electric miles by placing stations where consumers live, work, shop and play."

Stop & Shop operates more than 400 stores throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Volta Charging and offer our customers the benefit of electric vehicle charging at no cost,” said Stop & Shop president Gordon Reid. “Providing this convenience allows us to do more than make things easier for our customers; it allows us to also
make things better for the environment.”
