🌱FSRI Police Go Team Gets Funding + Racoon With Rabies In RI

Here are the top five stories in Pawtucket today:
- Family Service of Rhode Island's (FSRI) Police Go Team receives federal funding. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) joined with FSRI, local law enforcement, and local elected officials to announce new federal funding in the amount of $413,000 for this program. It is part of the omnibus spending bill. Reportedly, the FSRI Police Go Team program was one of ten community project funding requests that the Congressman made to the Appropriations Committee. - Be careful out there! A raccoon in Rhode Island tested positive for rabies Friday according to the state Department of Environmental Management (DEM). The raccoon was found at Bold Point Park in East Providence. The Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island picked up the sick animal and humanely euthanized it, before taking it to a state lab for rabies testing. (Patch)
- By the end of May, a plan will be submitted to the city of Providence, by the Providence Municipal Reparations Commission, on how to spend the $14.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for reparation payments for people impacted by slavery, systemic racism and mistreatment of Native Americans. The money may reportedly be used towards housing and land ownership for African American people, college scholarships, health care, and even direct cash payments to those impacted. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
