📰 News we're reading

• Caught on Camera: How Some RI Cities Turn Commuters into Revenue (upriseri.com) — Pawtucket’s expanding network of school-zone speed cameras has generated more than $4.1 million in one school year, while critics question whether safety or revenue is the real priority. Residents and commuters face lower speed limits than neighboring Attleboro, no recorded student injuries in camera zones, and growing concern that automated ticketing is discouraging visits to local businesses.

• Solar Program Designed to Help Low-Income and Environmental Justice Zone Residents Instead Leaves them Stranded (ecori.org) — Low-income homeowners in Pawtucket are among those left in limbo after the state’s Affordable Solar Access Pathways program stalled when its vendor, PosiGen, went bankrupt. The initiative had promised subsidized rooftop solar and lower electric bills for eligible neighborhoods, but applications are now paused while officials decide how to protect existing customers and what to do with remaining program funds.
