RISP: Providence Man Dies In Pawtucket Crash

Police say a GMC Sedona veered left on the Smithfield Ave. on-ramp to Rt. 95, left the roadway, and hit a tree.

PAWTUCKET, RI — A Providence man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Pawtucket Saturday evening. At around 5:09 p.m., Rhode Island State Police and Pawtucket Fire and Rescue responded to a crash on the northbound ramp heading from Smithfield Avenue to Route 95.

In a release, state police said a GMC Sedona operated by John Betters III, 62, veered left, left the roadway, and hit a tree head-on. It happened 200 feet south of the merge between the ramp and Route 95.

Betters was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and later pronounced dead.
