2016 Portsmouth Transfer Station Sticker Sales Begin on Jan. 4

The price tag went up a little this year.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—Stickers for Portsmouth residents to use the town’s transfer station in 2016 can be bought beginning Jan. 4.

The price is $150 for the first vehicle and $10 for a second sticker, which is the limit per household. The price increased by $15 this year upon recommendation of Town Administrator Richard Rainer, who told the Town Council that the increase is due in part to recent construction there and its resulting debt service.

The town is also bracing itself along with all other Rhode Island Communities for an anticipated price hike at the Central Landfill in Johnston. Rhode Island Resource Recovery is proposing an increase of the municipal tipping fee—the price to dump trash—from $32 to $57 per ton and more in future years.
