3 Kids, 2 Women Injured In Portsmouth Head-On Crash
Three children, a 13-year-old, a 5-year-old and an infant, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — An infant, two children and two women suffered serious injuries in a crash Thursday morning in Portsmouth.
The crash happened just after 9 a.m., on West Main Road, near Melville Elementary School. Police said a driver crossed over the center of the road and hit another driver head-on.
One of the drivers, a 32-year-old woman, was extricated from her car, according to police. Her three children — a 13-year-old, a 5-year-old and an infant, were also hurt in the crash, as was a 34-year-old woman driving the other vehicle, police said. All were taken to local hospitals with serious injuries. Police did not specify which woman was driving which vehicle.

Portsmouth police said Bristol officers helped with traffic control, while Portsmouth, Tiverton, Newport and Middletown fire departments helped treat the injured people.
