Elderly Middletown Woman Dies In Portsmouth Crash After Striking Tree
Portsmouth police say the crash happened Monday night on Indian Avenue near Swan Drive and resulted in the death of Claudia Bell, 69.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — An elderly woman was killed in a crash on Monday night, according to Portsmouth police.
Police said the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Indian Avenue and resulted in the death of Claudia Bell, 69, of Middletown. According to police, Claudia lost control of her car and struck a tree near Swan Drive.
Bell was taken to Newport Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Police said she was the only person inside the car when the crash happened.

Portsmouth police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, though the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
