Portsmouth Officer Shoots, Euthanizes 'Possum

An opossum, believed to be rabid, was discovered last week in Island Park.

Police say an opossum, found in front of Travers Plumbing in Island Park last week, was rabid. 

The opossum was discovered Wednesday morning in Island Park. An officer shot the opossum with a shotgun to euthanize it, according to The Sakonnet Times.

"The opossum showed signs of being rabid," said Lt. Brian Peters. "It was then euthanized."

The deceased animal was later transported to the Potter League in Middletown.
