UPDATED: At Least 3 Injured in 3-Car Crash on Bristol Ferry Road

At least three people were injured in a three-car crash on Bristol Ferry Road just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

A person has died after today's three-vehicle crash on Bristol Ferry Road. The victim was pronounced dead at Newport Hospital.

One person died and two people were injured Wednesday evening when several cars collided on Bristol Ferry Road.

Bristol Ferry Road is closed to all traffic as Portsmouth Police, Fire and Rescue personnel are currently on scene treating crash victims in the street. At least three injured people were transported to an area hospital via Portsmouth Rescue and Bristol Rescue by 5:15 p.m.

"Based on the damage to the vehicles, there is the possibility of serious injuries, but I don't have medical conditions at this time," said Portsmouth Fire Chief Michael Cranson. 

Portsmouth firefighters used the Jaws-of-Life to remove a man from one of the pickup trucks. 

All three vehicles, including two Ford pickup trucks (one sporting Rhode Island license plates) and a silver Lexus with Florida license plates, sustained heavy damage.

Initial reports of the crash that occurred on Bristol Ferry Road at the intersection of Mare Terrace came in at about 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Based on the damage to the vehicles, there is the possibility of serious injuries, but I don't have medical conditions at this time," said Portsmouth Fire Chief Michael Cranson.

The cause of the crash is unknown and under investigation.
