Obituary: Edmund J. Mello, 83

Edmund J. Mello, a lover of roses, avid gardener and guitar enthusiast, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertrude A. (Arsenault) Mello. He was the father to three children: his daughter, Jeannine F. Mello (deceased), Matthew E. Mello of Portsmouth, RI, and Dr. Suzanne Mello-Stark and her husband Bill Stark and step-son, Ezra J. Stark of Storrs, CT.

Edmund was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Aguiar) Mello. He was the brother of Pete (Mannie) Mello of San Diego, CA, John Mello of Middletown, RI and Mary Heck of El Cajon, CA, and many loving nieces and nephews survive Edmund.

Edmund’s deceased siblings are Edward Mello (his twin), Joseph Mello, Leah Perrenelo, Irene Pine and Diana Gauthrie.

Edmund worked at Boulevard Nurseries for 15 years and Raytheon for 40 years.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 8. 2016 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, MA.
