'Operation Safe Summer' Decreases Portsmouth Crashes: Police

From July to the beginning of September, the department saw a 34 percent reductions in crashes from the year before.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth's Operation Safe Summer was a success, police announced. The traffic enforcement program led to a 34 percent reduction in crashes compared to the year before.

The program ran from July 6 to Sept. 7. During that time, 73 crashes were reported, a significant decrease compared to 111 in 2019 and 135 in 2018, during the same period. Similarly, traffic enforcement increased — up 14 percent from 2019 and 75 percent from 2018.

"We are pleased with the results of "Operation Safe Summer" and will continue our efforts to keep all of our roadways safe!" the department said.
