Portsmouth Council Approves 2-Percent Tax Hike

The Portsmouth Town Council voted Monday to adopt a $59.5 million budget, which includes a two-percent property tax increase, reports EastBayRI.com. 

The council voted 5-2 to approve the municipal budget, which includes a new tax rate of $14.53 per $1,000 of assessed value, according to EastBayRI.com. 

The previous tax rate was $14.238. For a homeowner with a property valued at $300,000, the new tax rate means an additional tax of $87.60 per year.
