PORTSMOUTH, RI — Portsmouth declared a parking ban ahead of a winter storm expected to arrive overnight. The ban will be in effect from 1 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday.

The storm is expected to move in overnight, dropping several inches of snow accumulation before changing over to wintry mix. Hazardous road conditions are likely, along with the chance for a flash freeze later in the afternoon.

When all is said and done, Rhode Island is expected to see between two and eight inches of snow accumulation, with the snowfall amount highest at the top of the state and lower headed further south. The National Weather Service said there is still a lot of uncertainty about these numbers, however, so all of Rhode Island could see different snow totals.
