Portsmouth High Drama Club To Present 'Harvey'

PORTSMOUTH, RI — The PHS Drama Club is set to premiere a production of Mary Chase’s Harvey. The play follows Elwood P. Dowd: a well-mannered man whose best friend is an imaginary 6 ½ foot tall white rabbit named Harvey. When Elwood’s sister Veta attempts to put him in a sanitarium, conflicts and hilarity ensue. Directed by Sheli Beck Silveria, this is the third production of the show in the school’s history. Over forty students have been working rigorously since September to get this production up and running. Harvey will be performed at PHS on November 17th and 18th, with a 7pm curtain. Tickets are $10 general admission, and $5 for seniors. Tickets are available at the door.

The production will also help a theater in need.

With what has been in the news recently, there has been some unease regarding PHS’s upcoming production of the comedic play Harvey. However, the production will be used as a way of helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey; specifically those in the theatrical world. PHS Drama Club is thrilled to announce a raffle for front row seats to Harvey, with proceeds going to Theatre Victoria in Victoria Texas. For 40 years, Theatre Victoria has produced shows, been a venue for touring productions, and provided intensive theatrical education. Theatre Victoria has also lent out its resources (props, costumes, sets, etc.) to other theatrical troupes in the Southern Texas area. Unfortunately, during the hurricane, many of their sets and props were destroyed beyond repair. PHS Drama Club hopes to raise as much money as possible to help Theatre Victoria to rebuild.
