PORTSMOUTH, RI — The Portsmouth Police Department is looking to hire new officers to its force.

The department is now seeking applications from qualified candidates. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m April 8. All applications must be submitted online here.

Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 upon hiring, and have a high school diploma or GED. Preference will be given to candidates that possess criminal justice/justice administration educational credits and/or honorable military service time.

Appointment to the department is subject to a satisfactory background investigation, medical exam, psychological exam and drug screening.
