Portsmouth Pizzeria Manager Hid Video Camera In Restaurant's Restroom: Police

An employee discovered the cellphone in the restroom, police said.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — The manager of a Portsmouth pizzeria hid a cellphone in the restaurant's restroom to record workers using it, police said.

Michael Boone, 29, the manager of North End Pizzeria, was arrested Tuesday and charged with video voyeurism, unauthorized dissemination of indecent material and disorderly conduct, the Portsmouth police said in a media release.

A North End Pizzeria employee discovered the phone while using the restroom during a work shift, according to police.

"The employee reported that while inside the restroom, they noticed a mobile phone positioned in such a manner to capture the contents of the room," the release said.

"The investigation led to Boone, who was seen entering the restroom shortly before and again immediately after the employee," the release said.

Detectives obtained a warrant to search Boone’s Barkers Lane home and recovered a cellphone consistent with the one described by the employee that contained digital evidence, according to the release.

"During questioning, Boone admitted to placing a hidden camera in the restroom and secretly recording employees without their knowledge or consent," the release said.

"During the course of the investigation, detectives identified a second victim who was also recorded without their consent," according to the release. "Boone further admitted to distributing some of the recordings via a social media platform."

The Portsmouth police encouraged anyone with information about the matter to call detectives at 401-683-0994.

"Additional charges are pending as detectives continue to analyze the recovered electronic evidence," the release said.
