Resisting Arrest Charges Top Recent Police Reports

The following is based on reports from the Portsmouth Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Portsmouth police made the following arrests recently. 

  • Dennis Szafir, 65, 51 Middle Road, Apt. 213, Portsmouth, was arrested on Dec. 14 at 9 p.m. at at home after police received a noise complaint. Upon arrival, officers found a man walking down the hallway. Szafir began yelling profanity at the police officers in the hallway. He continued to yell, calling them vulgar terms. He was placed into handcuffs, at which time he struggled. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was also wanted on a bench warrant.
  • Dennis Gagne, 45, of 47 Holliston Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested on Dec. 14 at 3:02 p.m. at his home. He was charged with domestic vandalism; domestic, refusal to relinquish the telephone; and resisting arrest. According to police, a 51-year-old Portsmouth woman claimed Gagne threatened to hit her. He allegedly grabbed the phone away from her, causing it to break. Police found him in the attic hiding. During the arrest, Gagne allegedly began to clench his fists. He was forced to the ground and placed into handcuffs. 
  • Robert Muldoon, 52, of 2228 Sprague St., Portsmouth, was arrested on Dec. 13 and charged with domestic, simple assault. Muldoon allegedly got into an argument with a 47-year-old Portsmouth woman on Nov. 30. During the argument, he allegedly threw her to the ground and put his hands around her neck. Officers obtained an arrest warrant based on allegations. He was arrested on a warrant on Dec. 13 at 11:36 at his home.
