The clean-up crews went to Weaver Cove and Sandy Point beaches, according to Clean Ocean Access.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — Volunteers took more than 300 pounds of "marine debris" off two Portsmouth beaches last weekend, according to Clean Ocean Access. The organization sent 27 people to Weaver Cove on Saturday, Jan. 13. They carted 150 pounds off the beach. Then on Sunday, Jan. 14, another group went to Sandy Point. Those 20 volunteers removed 175 pounds of marine debris from the beach.

By the numbers, Clean Ocean Access said this Sandy Point cleanup was the fifth, "and they have removed 1,960 pounds of marine debris from that location since the first cleanup in 2011. This was also the 5th cleanup at Weaver Cove and they have removed 3,935 lbs of marine debris from that location since the first cleanup in 2016."

The next opportunity comes Saturday, Feb. 3 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m at Gull Cove in Portsmouth.
