Here are the top five stories today in Providence:

  1. Police were alerted by a teenager who saw an inappropriate Snapchat post with girls and an older man. Officers have said that within a half-hour of the video getting posted, police were able to find Brown University Graduate Student, Jared A. Soltys, 23, of Providence and the victims. Reportedly Soltys was arraigned on charges of statutory rape of a child and procuring liquor for a person under 21 in a Massachusetts court Monday. He was held on a $20,000 bail and ordered to stay away from the victims and out of the towns of Hanson and Bridgewater, Massachusetts. (Providence Patch)
  2. Selected from over 5,000 candidates two Cranston students have been named semifinalists for Presidential Scholarship. Among the 620 semifinalists, John Soscia, a graduating senior at Cranston High School West, is one of the semifinalists and the other is Kalliana Marek, a homeschooled student. Congratulations students! (Patch)
  3. As part of the new summer program, Providence school students will benefit from expanded hours, new career and technical education (CTE) programs, and integrated learning for multilingual students. The program is free for all students and includes breakfast and lunch. (WPRI.com)

  5. Brown University will be offering a new Critical Native American and Indigenous Studies concentration. The concentration will be offered in fall 2022 through the American Studies department. (The Brown Daily Herald)
