Mass Shooter Didn't 'Give A Damn About How You Judge' Him, Then Killed Himself

The Department of Justice released transcripts of videos made by the Brown University mass shooter shortly before he took his own life.

PROVIDENCE, RI — The Brown University mass shooter said he didn't "give a damn about how you judge" him in a video he recorded shortly before he took his own life in a Salem, New Hampshire, storage facility.

"I don't give a damn about how you judge me or what you think of me," Claudio Neves Valente said in one of four videos he recorded in the storage facility, according to the Department of Justice.

The DOJ released transcripts of the videos Tuesday. Neves Valente, a 48-year-old former Brown student and Portuguese national living in Miami, recorded the videos in Portuguese. The DOJ transcripts are English translations.

"I-I never wanted to do it in an auditorium," Neves Valente said in the transcript.

"I wanted to do it in a regular room," he said.

"And I had plenty of opportunities, especially this semester, I had plenty of opportunities, but I always chickened out, and I already explained why I did it this time," said Neves Valente, who does not explain in the transcripts why he committed the mass shooting.

Neves Valente was also linked to the shooting death of Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Nuno Loureiro, who was found mortally wounded in his Brookline home Dec. 15, with the feds calling the connection a certainty.

Neves Valente repeatedly complains about an eye injury he suffered while carrying out the deadly rampage.

"To say that I was extraordinarily satisfied, no, but I also don't regret what I did. Honestly, my
only regret is this thing in the eye [laughs]," the transcript reads.

Neves Valente also claims he has no desire for fame — or infamy — and at one point ponders deleting his videos.

"But even if I delete it, it is on an SD card, it's going to be a little hard," he says in the transcript.

"I want to know if you are going to post this, maybe I would prefer that you don't, and [pause] I don't care at all about being famous, having a legacy, and (expletive) like that, manifestos and (expletive) stuff," Neves Valente said. I have absolutely no patience for that. Even though I would have a lot to say and write, I don't care. I'm not going to give you the right to that."
