Here are the top stories today in Providence:
- On Friday, Brown University in Providence released an expanded version of its 2006 report on its historical ties to the transatlantic slave trade. Amid renewed national conversation on slavery’s legacy, undergraduate students of the Ivy League school voted overwhelmingly for the university to identify descendants of enslaved people who worked on campus and begin paying them reparations. However, Brown says it has no current plans to do this. (NBC10 Boston)
- Lifespan and Hasbro Children’s Hospital held a pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Center for Primary Care in Providence this weekend. Eligible kids scheduled appointments to receive their first dose of the vaccine, following the Rhode Island Department of Health's authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Another pediatric clinic will be held Saturday, Nov. 20 by appointment. (WPRI.com)
- The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded Providence College more than $300,000 to help its art gallery recover from the financial impact of the pandemic. The school was one of 90 colleges nationwide that received American Rescue Plan funding, which will help cultural and educational nonprofits retain and rehire staff, and rebuild its programs and projects.
